[June 16, 2000] Good news! Contract negotiations between your medical group and Aetna U.S. HealthCare/Prudential HealthCare have been successful. Your membership in UC Care remains intact. In hopes of reaching a settlement, Aetna did not automatically assign new primary care physicians (PCPs) to UC Care members. However, if you already called Member Services to change the PCP for yourself or your family members and you do not want that change to occur, you need to call again to "undo" your request. Unfortunately, it was not possible for the Member Services staff to separate these requests from routine PCP requests. The toll-free number is (1-800-313-3804). Within the University of California's Human Resources and Benefits Department, we are aware that the pending termination of the contract has been a source of great anxietyespecially for those with medical treatment in progress. We regret that common ground between the two parties was not found sooner, without the necessity of notifying (or impacting) the UC Care membership. Please be assured that we are now examining ways to avoid this kind of event in future contract negotiations. Sincerely, Judith W. Boyette |
