Oh, Canada
Coralee Yale, UCLA Medical Center
I retired from UCLA Medial Center in 2006, after over 40 years of service. I had planned to work another five years at least, but when the second grandchild was born in British Colombia, Canada, and another was on the way, and when we bought a home in Kaslo, BC, supposedly for visiting on occasion, we suddenly realized -- why take more years away from the kids and grandkids? Why not be there to watch them grow up?
We absolutely love our new life, though totally different from LA. We have a home up against a rock face, and face the lake and town. We spend our time cross-country skiing in winter, playing golf in spring and summer, seeing the kids, and grandkids. What could be better? We also have a lot of outdoor work on the home, with lots of wood to chop up and gardening. The town population is 1,000. The surrounding mountains are covered with snow all year. The fauna are deer, bear, wild turkeys; the flora are huge forests of firs, cedars, birch, and incredible wildflowers.
